Common Questions About Student Loan Interest and Taxes

Q: When will I receive tax forms in the mail?

A: By Jan. 31, Aspire will mail 1098-E forms to borrowers who paid $600 or more in student loan interest and 1099-C forms to borrowers who had at least $600 in student loan debt canceled between the date their loans were transferred to Aspire and Dec. 31, 2012.

Q: Why didn't I receive tax information from Aspire in the mail?

A: Aspire does not mail tax statements to borrowers reporting less than $600 on their 1098-E or 1099-C forms from the date the loans were transferred to Aspire through the end of 2012. (This information is, however, available by logging in to your online account.)

If you have a spousal consolidation, the 1098-E or 1099-C document is mailed to the primary person listed on the account, and the comaker will not receive a tax form from Aspire or be able to view the information through online account access.
